LHEC’s youth service programs aim to support safe and healthy learning, as well as life skills development and recreational opportunities for children and youth citywide during out-of- school hours. Services operate from 3 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Thursday during the regular school calendar, on weekends 8 AM-5 PM (based on program need).
Youth – Out of School Services Programming Including
1. Academic Enrichment: Homework Assistance and Tutoring designed to support in-school lessons. 2. Life Skills Development:Programming is designed to help build positive character traits, such asreliability, responsibility and trustworthiness that enable youth to be more successful in their daily life and future work experiences. 3. Vocational Skills Development & Go-Kart Racing School:Our racing school seeks to develop vocational skills through learning the basics of Go-Kart and Car Mechanics, as supported by the National Association Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), and related activities that serve as positive reinforcements. Programming is independent of, but complementary to other service delivery within our overall youth initiative. 4. Summer Recreational Programming & Athlectic League(s): For the past seven years, we have operated a six week soccer league that has grown to service over 240 children/youth,between 4-12 years of age, encompassing 16 locally sponsored teams. Through the volunteer efforts of people in the community (coaching, refereeing, etc.) and the direct involvement of local businesses, the children are offered a safe recreational alternative that serves to build positive life skills and character formation as they practice team work, responsibility and sportsmanship.
